About Best Fillet Knife and How We Choose Knives
Best Fillet Knife is an independent guide that helps anglers pick the right fillet knife. Our picks are based on published specs, manufacturer information and verified Amazon buyer feedback, not on paid rankings.
Who runs this site
This site is run independently by an angler-owner. It is not owned by any knife brand or retailer.
How we choose and rank knives
We currently cover 17 fillet knives that are sold on Amazon.com. For each one we look at:
- Blade length, flex and shape compared with the fish it’s meant for
- Blade steel and coatings, especially for saltwater use
- Handle grip, finger guard and sheath or case
- For electric knives: cordless or corded, blades included, published runtime and warranty
- Price relative to similar knives
- Recurring themes in verified Amazon buyer reviews, such as edge life, handle comfort and durability
Each knife gets an editorial score out of 10 that reflects how well it fits its intended job. Scores are our judgment, not lab measurements.
What we don’t do
- We don’t claim lab testing or hours of hands-on testing we haven’t done.
- We don’t invent experts, quotes or star ratings.
- We only quote Amazon ratings exactly as shown on the listing, with the date we checked them.
Where we add hands-on notes from real use, they’re clearly labelled on the review.
How we make money
We earn a commission when you buy through our Amazon links. Brands can pay for a “Featured partner” placement, which is always labelled. Read the full affiliate disclosure.
Keeping things current
Every review shows when it was last updated and when we last checked the price. If a knife goes out of stock, it moves to the bottom of our lists until it’s back. Spot an error? Tell us.
