Our review
Rapala's Heavy Duty is a corded electric fillet knife built for people who clean a lot of fish. Rapala says the heavy-duty motor gives twice the speed and three times the power of standard electric fillet knives; that's the maker's claim, not our measurement. The box includes the handset, a 7.5-inch serrated reciprocating blade set and an 8-foot 110 V cord.
Because it's corded, there's no battery to run down, which suits long sessions at a cleaning station. The blades are dishwasher safe, and Rapala sells replacement blades, including a 9-inch set, at low prices.
On Amazon, buyers most often praise the powerful motor and how easily it cuts through rib bones on walleye, white bass and panfish, as well as its speed and value. The most common complaint is that the blades are very hard to remove. Feedback on sharpness and long-term durability is mixed: some buyers say it lasts years, others that it wore out sooner.
If you always clean fish where there's an outlet and want maximum power for the money, it's the corded knife to get. If you clean fish on the boat or away from power, choose a cordless model instead.
